1500 Miles, 1 Image ~ My Street

Friday, July 21, 2017

Sometimes we meet people who we know we always want in our lives, no matter how many miles come between us.  I have been lucky to have far more then a handful of friends, that I am still good friends with and talk to on a regular basis though we are far apart.  My dear friend Eileen is one of them, so when she asked me to do a personal photography project with her I was so excited.

In the photographer social media world we have friends in groups or forums, that we unfortunately never really get to know or meet.  A few years ago I was in a 52 project on Flickr.  I noticed one photographer in the group was posting pictures of familiar Arizona places.  We would comment on each others images but never made a plan to meet.  One day I took my kids to the local splash pad and noticed a little girl playing in the water. I recognized her face right away from the pictures on flickr and I took note of who she was with.  I have a fairly outgoing personality so when I was sure who her mom was I went up to her and introduced myself.  That is how our friendship started.

Eileen and I would get together often when living in Arizona.  We had a lot of fun doing picture walks, drinking wine, chatting about life and of course photography.  Eileen was a huge support to me when we moved, she always had words of wisdom to share.  My family moved to New Jersey last summer and Eileen has since moved to Texas.  Even though we don't get to see each other we still chat weekly, the only thing missing is clinking our glasses of wine.

We decided to do a documentary photography project as another way to stay connected.  We will have the same theme each week and we will interpret it as we creatively see fit! Eileen is a wonderful photographer who is always willing to share all her knowledge...and she has a ton of it! I can't wait to see her images each week. Please go check out Eileen's image and blog here for our first collaborative theme...My Street.
